Megan and Travis's fall wedding day brought together the love of two college sweethearts whom I have had the privilege to know for the last few years. In college, I was in the same sorority as Megan and my husband Ben was in the same fraternity with Travis. We have been able to follow their love story from the beginning and I was honored to document their special day. It was a beautiful October afternoon, not too cold, and the leaves had just started to turn into an ombre of burgundy and crimson hues.
Megan began getting ready at her parent's house with her wedding party. She was feeling excited and had the support of her mom, mother-in-law, and best friends as they all prepared for the special day ahead. Megan and her wedding party enjoyed a champagne toast on the patio before getting dressed. Megan's bridal details incorporated a lot of personal mementos, like the hairpiece from her mom, her grandma's bracelet, and the custom-made veil by her mother-in-law. Her wedding band incorporates the Celtic knot design, which honors Megan's heritage, as well as the bells of Ireland in her bouquet.
Before heading out to meet Travis for their first look, Megan shared a first look with her dad. It was a significant moment together in the home where she and her family created many happy memories. It was so sweet to see Megan's dad greet his daughter as a bride for the first time, and there were lots of laughter and smiles.
Meanwhile, Travis was getting ready at Great Oaks Country Club with his groomsmen and dad. The guys had a fun and relaxed morning before Travis headed to Heritage Park in Farmington Hills to meet Megan. The rain had held off all morning, and just before they met there was a beautiful burst of sunshine that was perfectly timed for the moment. Travis was so in awe of his bride and they are such a loving couple to each other. They interact and speak to each other in a sweet, tender way that I hope never fades for them. Once I captured the bride and groom together around the park, the wedding party joined in. The shades of lavender and lilac looked beautiful with the vibrant fall colors in the trees.
Next, we all headed to Our Shepherd Lutheran Church for the ceremony. The officiant is a pastor who knew Megan and Travis and their families and he was able to make the ceremony personal and meaningful to them. The stained glass windows provided a beautiful backdrop for portraits after the ceremony that really captured the light. After the ceremony, everyone made their way to The Kingsley Hotel. Guests enjoyed cocktail hour before Megan and Travis made their grand entrance as the new Mr. and Mrs. Kersten. The couple's wedding cake had fun penguin cake toppers, Megan's favorite, which they cut a slice and shared before taking to the dance floor for their first dance together.
During dinner, we snuck away for a couple of photos in the courtyard just after the sunset so that the dancing could begin right away after dinner. Once Megan shared a dance with her dad and Travis with his mom, the dance floor was open and everyone had a great time letting loose on the dance floor. Congratulations, Megan and Travis! It was an honor to capture your wedding day, I wish you many happy years of memories together!
