Is there anything better than capturing summer love in the city? Not for me! Ashley and Jared's downtown Detroit engagement session was filled with all the carefree romantic vibes and I am so honored they chose me as their engagement photographer. The couple is having a Florida destination wedding next spring but found me in a SEEN Magazine article where I was included in great company as one of 45+ Michigan-Based Wedding and Engagement Photographers. It was a joy to spend the evening with Ashley and Jared, they both have so much love for each other, and it was so sweet to see their gentle interactions and playful side shine through.

Since Ashley and Jared spend a lot of time downtown enjoying the bar scene and testing out the city's best cocktails, it was only natural to spend their engagement session in Detroit. We started at Townhouse which has an elevated vintage glamour ambiance. This made for the perfect backdrop with Ashley and Jared's more formal attire and the bartender even made specialty cocktails just for them. I noticed how the soft light danced and sparkled from Ashley's beautiful engagement ring, she said that Jared picked it out himself with the help of her sister. Our next stop on the downtown Detroit tour was at 111 Cadillac Square, which is now revitalized as an apartment building but years ago was home to Jared's grandfather's barbershop. The city was calm and quiet, it felt so intimate after the recent rain. Well, it was quiet with the exception of the pedal bar crowd who all cheered and congratulated Ashley and Jared when they rolled on by.

After a quick change into their more casual look, we walked through Campus Martius, Capitol Park, and ended our session at sunset in the spot with the best view of the city, a parking structure, of course! Pro-tip, if you are ever in Detroit and want some great views of the city, the top of a parking structure will never disappoint you, especially at Capitol Park Deck. As golden hour was peeking between the buildings, I realized how quickly time flew by during my session with Ashley and Jared. They were so much fun to hang out with and it was easy to see how much they just enjoy spending time together. It really is about the simple things in life!
